Working in collaboration with Birdi & Partners, Frame Projects was commissioned to develop options for design governance at Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) to support it in delivering the largest investment in transport infrastructure that the region has seen in recent decades. This forms part of TfWM’s work to ensure high standards in civil engineering, public realm, landscape and architectural design, to better serve the places and people of the West Midlands.
Frame Projects convened an internal stakeholder workshop, chaired by Harbinder Birdi, to understand TfWM’s existing processes and the opportunities and challenges to do things differently. This fed into a report including a series of case studies exploring the function and value of different design governance tools, that might be integrated into TfWM’s existing processes. A key driver is to establish a strategy for all TfWM commissioners, leaders and stakeholders to use, instilling clear expectations and common goals within the organisation, as well as with its partners and supply chain.
